Operating system update necessary to install or upgrade ESET applications
Which version of Windows operating system am I running?
Trusted Signing Adoption: Requirements Following Cross-Signing Deprecation
Due to Microsoft's deprecation of the cross-signing program, ESET has fully transitioned to using Trusted Signing (formerly Azure Code Signing). Trusted Signing is supported in all releases of Windows 11 and Windows 10 version 21H2 or later. For Windows versions earlier than 21H2, the respective updates (KBs), first released in September and October 2021, must be installed to enable this feature.
Windows and Windows Server users need the applicable operating system updates to install or upgrade affected ESET applications (listed below) released after the end of July 2023. Without the necessary operating system updates, it will not be possible to install or upgrade ESET applications (including security and stability updates) listed below.
Existing installations of ESET applications will not be affected and will keep receiving module updates.
Trusted Signing: Compatibility and Requirements
No action required
Trusted Signing is natively supported on:
•Windows 11 (all versions).
•Windows 10 version 21H2 or later.
These users do not need to take any additional steps.
Action required
•For Windows versions earlier than 21H2 (for example, 1809/October 2018 Update), specific KB updates from September/October 2021 are required to enable Trusted Signing. You can download the KB updates for Windows from the Update Catalog.
•When upgrading to Windows 10 22H2, use the Media Creation Tool as Microsoft recommends.
•Users with offline environments or disabled automatic trusted root certificate updates must have the Microsoft Identity Verification Root Certificate Authority 2020 installed.

Are my systems affected?
If you manage your endpoints using ESET PROTECT management console, you can create a report with the list of affected machines.
Timeline of ESET application version compatibility
Without support for Azure Code Signing, it will not be possible to install or upgrade to later application versions starting from a specific version/build number.
Trusted Signing (Azure Code Signing) Support Required for the Latest Builds Builds listed in the table contain installation blocks to prevent installation on operating systems without Trusted Signing support. Users are informed about this via a notification window. Auto-updates to these builds are not distributed to devices without Trusted Signing support. Earlier builds that do not require Trusted Signing support will remain available on ESET download web and ESET PROTECT On-Prem repository. |

Notifications in ESET applications
Application statuses in affected endpoint and server applications and alerts in ESET PROTECT management console appear from July 10, 2023, displaying the "Your operating system is outdated" message. In the first half of September 2023, this message started displaying "Missing support for Azure Code Signing". The same message will appear also in ESET home applications.
It will be possible for administrators to hide the messages in Advanced setup during September 2023. For more information on how to hide application statuses in ESET business applications, see the appropriate section in the documentation:
