Upgrade your unsupported operating system
Which Windows operating system version am I running?
What will happen?
On January 10, 2023, Microsoft ended support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 (including Extended Security Updates).
Due to possible changes made by Microsoft, ESET could be unable to release fixes and module updates for ESET applications running on these operating system versions after the Microsoft end of support date.
Are you affected?
Is my application or OS version affected by End of Life?
To check the Windows version on your device, use the Microsoft Windows version check link at the top of the page.
If you manage endpoints using ESET PROTECT management console, you can create a report with the list of affected machines.
Recommended action
1.Check the Windows version on each affected device.
2.Upgrade the device to Windows 11.
3.Restart the device.
4.Upgrade your ESET application to the latest version.
Home users
Upgrade the operating system to Windows 11, and then upgrade your ESET Windows home application to the latest version.
Business users
Upgrade affected endpoints to a supported Windows version. If you manage endpoints remotely, upgrade ESET Endpoint Antivirus or ESET Endpoint Security only after the operating system is supported.
What still works?
Existing compatible ESET installations can continue to receive module updates if the required Update module version is installed.
What does not work?
You cannot rely on ESET to provide fixes, security and stability updates, or support for issues that are caused by the unsupported operating system. Newer ESET application versions do not install or run on Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 8.1.
Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 do not support modern Trusted Signing. As a result, later ESET application versions cannot be installed or upgraded on these operating systems. Upgrade the operating system before you install the latest ESET application version. For more information, see Operating system update necessary to install or upgrade ESET applications.
Continuation of module updates
Module updates for ESET Endpoint Antivirus and ESET Endpoint Security for Windows will continue after the Microsoft Entrust certificate expires on December 8, 2023. If you encounter any issues with module updates after this date, restart the device.
We recommend you update all modules in your ESET Endpoint Antivirus and ESET Endpoint Security for Windows application and verify your Update module version is 1036 or later.
How can I check module updates on my ESET Endpoint application?
For more information about servicing updates, see Servicing updates for ESET Endpoint solutions for Windows.
Possible symptoms
•Module updates fail.
•Product upgrade fails.
•Installation of a later ESET version is blocked.
•The device shows an unsupported operating system warning.
If module updates fail after December 8, 2023, restart the device. If the issue continues, upgrade the operating system, and then upgrade the ESET application.

If you must continue using the affected Windows versions, use the recommended compatible combination of ESET business application versions listed in the table above. For example, use ESET PROTECT 10.1 with ESET Endpoint Antivirus for Windows 9.1. Due to module update restrictions, the compatibility of these ESET application versions and affected operating systems is limited after December 8, 2023.
Support for the affected operating system could continue for other ESET applications, but it is not guaranteed. For more information, see the system requirements section of the applicable application help pages.
